Amendments in legislation will be made to simplify arrival of researchers and university students from third countries to Estonia.
Third country researchers entering Estonia with a visa or residence permit issued by another Schengen country will be allowed to do research work in Estonia until the residence permit expires. Students may study in Estonia up to 360 days. Under current legislation both, as third country citizens, can stay in Estonia up to 90 days during a 180 day period.
It will become easier for the family members of the researchers and university students to come to Estonia as well, because they will also not have to apply for separate residence permits. This will hopefully encourage the researchers who consider moving to Estonia for work.
The amendments are expected to enter into force by 23 May 2018.
