Networking event in Maarja village

Dear researchers!

EURAXESS Estonia team is glad to invite all international researchers working at Estonian R&D institutions as well as their family members to a networking weekend that will take place from 28th to 29th of May! This time we are visiting Põlvamaa where we will do some communal voluntary work, see beautiful sights of Southern-Estonia and visit an exciting museum.

Many of you have probably heard about, or even participated in voluntary work campaigns rather popular in Estonia - talgud. EURAXESS network has also joined the tradition, and once again we would like to help those in need. This time we will be helping very special people and place – Maarja village that is offering a home to young people with learning disabilities. The villagers themselves are very active in taking care of their everyday surroundings, yet there are some busy periods, when they would really appreciate our helping hands. On the first day of our trip we are going to help them with some cleaning work in young spruce forest and in communal houses, and help to take care of the flower beds. After work and a meal we plan to take a short guided walk in the beautiful Taevaskoja where the sandstone outcrops and the most beautiful part of the Ancient Ahja River Landscape Reserve can be seen. In the end of the day, we will have some time to network at Pesa Hotel.

On the second day, we will spend a few hours at Estonian Road museumwhich is probably much more exciting place than its name may reflect, providing interesting and diverse content for everybody from children to adults. We will have a guided tour as well as enough time to wander around at our own pace.

(The agenda may be a subject to minor changes, not affecting the starting or ending time.)

As our destination is quite far away, participants should be ready for the long distance bus trip (especially those coming from Tallinn). Please dress according to the weather and do not forget to take with you proper clothing and footwear for working outdoors.

We kindly ask each participant to contribute 20 euros – participation fee for an adult person, and 15 euros per child. Children under 3 years old are exempt from any fee. The participation fee includes all costs related to the event.
