------------

EURAXESS Estonia is glad to invite all international researchers working at Estonian R&D institutions as well as their family members to our autumn networking event. We will go on a sailing trip on the River Emajõgi on the 4-th of November 2017.

We will go downstream from Tartu on the barge called Jõmmu. During the trip we will spend some time outside on the deck and also inside, in the belly of the ship. We will do some nature-watching instructed by the barge crew and hear a presentation about EURAXESS Estonia activities and services by the EURAXESS Estonia team. International researchers will give short presentations about their academic work in Estonia that will be followed by brief discussions on the topics. We will also see a short film about old ship building technologies and traditions and see how Jõmmu was built. During free time we can enjoy the beautiful riverside views and make friends with each other.

We will feel cozy sitting on lambskins, smell the tar of the barge and sense the quietness of nature away from the towns. Come with your friends, colleagues and/or children!

Barges are unique wooden trading vessels that have sailed the inland waters of Estonia for more than 600 years. Jõmmu was built 10 years ago by using traditional medieval building methods by a group of enthusiasts. Today the barge Jõmmu and events organised by the Emajõe Lodjaselts have become integral parts of life in Tartu and various inland ports in Estonia.
