Dagmara SAGANOWSKA

What was your main reason for coming to Estonia?

I got intergovernmental scholarship, after one year in Estonia, I decided to stay, and hopefully applied for a job as a lecture of Polish language at the University of Tartu.

What is the best thing about living in Estonia?

Estonians are quite reserved people and offer you help immediately, when you ask for it.

Everything is really well organized, so I don’t have to worry about anything.

How would you describe your career perspectives in Estonia?

There are plenty of possibilities in my department, such as an assistant of Polish language and of course work connected to embassy of Poland or in private sector.

What was surprising for you when you moved to Estonia?

At the beginning (4 years ago) polite drivers, bilingual people or even multilingual, Internet communication all over the country.

What do you miss from your home country?

People, although I have met a lot of nice and friendly people here. I don’t socialize so much as I did in my home country. Since I moved to a country with a language that I’m not fluent in, there are limits to the conversations that I can have in Estonian, but it is needed to be said I improved my language skills here, but it is quite obvious that I miss Polish speaking persons. Fortunately there are some English-speaking friends here that I can talk with, and there is always Skype to keep in touch with people back home.
